Michael A Cronogue

Hello, and welcome to my website. Having spent almost a quarter of a century toiling away in the murky - and often contradictory worlds - of operations and customer service; I decided to pick up a pen, and follow my long-held dream of becoming a freelance writer. To finally throw off the chains of corporate thinking and speaking, and to use the English language as it was meant to be used: to inform, to entertain, and to amuse.

Although London born, I finished my formal schooling in Ireland under the auspices of the Sisters of Mercy (or should that be Sisters of NO Mercy?) who like their Christian Brothers counterparts, had their own unique take on discipline and grievance - they administered the discipline, you were left nursing the grievance! However, like my parents, they did instil a love of books and reading in general, which in turn nurtured my interest in writing.

If you look on Google, I am not to be confused with my Vermont, USA based namesake Father Michael Cronogue, Superior General of The Society of Saint Edmunds. He’s Michael P, I’m Michael A; he’s a dedicated catholic, I’m a collapsed one; he lives in an area of New England where it snows every year and Bing Crosby dreams of a White Christmas; I live in England’s Black Country, where it normally rains most of the year and the radio plays Merry Xmas Everybody. Other than having good old-fashioned Irish names, I am afraid that’s where the similarities must end. 

After being made redundant from my last managerial role in January 2009, and having spent so many years climbing the corporate career ladder - more for economic reasons than egotistical ones it must be said - I decided later that year to throw all caution to the wind, and do those things which amused and stimulated me, with the added possibility of even getting paid for it of course!
